A set of seashell wind chimes is a great reminder of a summer vacation at the shore. Kids and adults love to collect shells, and here’s something creative to do with them!

Supplies Needed:
Whole Seashells (get more than you think you’ll need, because a few may break)
Clear plastic thread (fishing line)
A Phillips-head screwdriver or any tool with a point
Scissors
Sharpie
Something to hang your shells from, like a curved branch or a short wooden dowel

Directions:
1. PREPARE THE SHELL: Wash them! Clean out the sand, the bits of seaweed, whatever debris is stuck to the shell.
2. MAKE THE HOLES: Pick the spot you want the hole to be. You will need one hole at the top of the shell and one hole at the bottom. — mark it with a pen or marker if you need to. Using a twisting motion, bore a hole in the shell. Some shells are thicker than others; don’t use too much pressure or the shell can shatter.
3. STRING THE SHELLS: Measure out the string at desired length. Using plastic thread, thread shells by threading through both holes on each shell and tieing off securely before going on to the next shell. Leave enough string at the top to make a big loop that will be the “hook” to hang on the branch/dowel.
4. HANG THE SHELLS: Using loop on top of the sting of hanging shells, loop around branch/dowel.

Optional: Decorate Shells with stickers, markers, photos, colored sand, glitters, etc..

This weekend I got crafty! I had a stack of wood plaques I picked up at the dollar store last year in hopes of turning them into something cute, so today I pulled one out along with paint and other odds and ends. My inspiration was to create something for my good friend Ashley.
Ashley and I take turns making handmade stuff for eachother, she has made me a knitted hats and dishcloths, cards, cookies, necklaces, and now it’s my turn to surprise her!

Here is what I came up with…

2 different ribbons from 1$ section at Craft Warehouse

Scrapbook papers

For all you coffee lovers out there here is a fun tutorial from Kate at oh write! of a handmade French Press cozy for deco and warmth! Personally I dont make coffee out of a French Press, but after seeing this tutorial it just makes me want to brew some so I can show off the cute cozy. This also made me think of the reason why I dont make coffee in the morning which is I am usually too lazy to get up and start the dang thing. BUT when I get to school in the mornings I usually have time before the day begins, so by tagging along a French Press would work perfect because I could do it all right there at my space! Also French Press coffee seems to be more of a bolder brew if you do like that sort of thing.

She has great step by step directions on her blog with photos along the way so you wont get lost if you a non-experienced sewer (like me).

Here are a few pictures…visit her blog to see the whole how-to tutorial!

Very cool idea! Thanks Kate

Save your old toothbrush and turn it into something crafty that you can wear! With plastic toothbrushes it is easy to mold any way you want by heating them up in hot water; specifically round shaped and wear as a funky bracelet. I will admit in middle school these were the thing to wear. My Mom is a dental assistant so toothbrushes were easily and Freely available, she gave me the idea to remove the bristles and make something out of them. My favorite were the glittery ones which were usually children’s toothbrushes.

This post was inspiration to a few people asking me where to buy and how to arrange inexpensive wedding flowers. In additon to food, and venue, flowers is the #3 money ditcher for weddings! They are oh so beautiful and no way to get arond paying a ton for beautiful flwoers, but maybe some things I found onine can give you inspiration to cut a little corners with your wedding flowers and save your money for the real important part of the wedding…THE HONEYMOON!

Be unique and either go simple and buy less flowers, OR think outside the box and use other objects as you centerpiece or accent.

candy apples that are edible for gifts guests!

create crafty fake flowers and accent with twigs/branches

use other bright accents such as candy

re-use old soup cans and add flowers from your backyard

The staple of each Easter celebration and deviled egg leftover is the hard boiled decorated Easter Egg! How do you and your family color Easter Eggs?

In my family we have always used the dollar kits you see at the grocery store that have all that you need to decorate your eggs with various color dyes. My favorite growing up were the shakeable color kits, dont shake too hard or you’ll crack the egg! Also the glittered ones were a favorite, all little girls love glitter, glam, and sparkle!

Now days there are so many purchasable kits such as Tye Dye, High School Musical, and Writable Crayon kits.

This year I think I am going to try the Rubber Band technique shown below.

Directions:
-Wrap a few rubber bands around an egg before dipping it into the dye. After the egg dries, remove the bands, revealing white stripes. Try placing the rubber bands in different places and using another color for a striped rainbow effect!

Check out my post I put together on how to cook the perfect hard boiled egg {HERE}.
