Nail Polish: OPI Midnight in Moscow

I had to work over Labor Day so post Labor Day when after all the crowds and the kids are back to school, the boyfriend and i took our dog Finley to the Oregon coast for a family getaway.

There are many popular beachy towns in Oregon such as Seaside, Astoria, and Tillamook, but we went a little more south to another popular beach town of Lincoln City. Lincoln city is known for their Outlet Mall known as “Tanger” outlets. It always fun spending a few hours browsing in and out of shops and finding a good deal or two on popular name brands such as COACH. I have been tempted a few times in that store.

The mornings were foggy and you could not see the ocean from the room. but we lounged around and took our time getting down to the beach which is always nice to not really recognize the time on a vacation. Finley our Miniature Dachshund was curious as always to all that has washed up ashore and smelled like it has seen better days. Finley did not like the water it was too cold. smart puppy he is. we saw many other dogs in and out of the water with their sandy paw but Finley took one look at the chilly salt water and ran behind our heels safely on land. this didn’t bother me because I really wasnt looking forward to giving him a bath when we got back to the hotel room.

Lincoln City is approx a 1.5hr drive from downtown Portland so it made a quick trip but felt like were far away enough from home to feel like we were on a getaway to indulge.

What is Shellac? Shellac™ is a hybrid Nail Color a mix between regular Nail Polish and gel Nails. This revolutionary product applies like polish, wears flawlessly for up to 14 days of high gloss shine, and is removed in minutes. Shellac is a trademark product first created by CND (Creative Nail Design) making it the leader in the revuloustin prodcut. There are now more companies such as OPI and Gelish coming out with mock similar products.

What is the benefit of Shellac? Zero dry time, full color and shine for up to 14 days, minimal to no chipping, helps weak brittle Nails, prevents nail splitting, acts as a shield for nail biters.

How does Shellac work? Shellac is like any other polish application which includes a Base Coat, Color Coat (2 coats) and Top Coat. All coats are cured individually with a UV Lamp. When all layers are complete the shellac is 100% dry to the touch which is another reason why Shellac is so popular there is no wait for drying time.

How long has it been around? About a year
How many Shellac colors are there? 30. CND first launched the system with 12 colors, later released a second set of 12 back in March 2011, and just released this September a set of 6 shades for Fall 2011. See a full list of colors below.

How long will my Shellac Manicure last? Up to 14 days depending on how vigorous you are with your hands.

How do I remove Shellac? Shellac is removed with 100% pure acetone. Removal can be done at home, however it is recommended that shellac be removed in a professional salon which nail technicians who are specially trained with the products. Shellac removal in the salon takes about 10 minutes.

Where can I get Shellac? Check out your local salon. This is a professional product and is not sold in stores.

How much does Shellac Cost? Anywhere from 30-50$ which most salons do include a basic manicure with cuticle maintenance and filing.

Will Shellac damage my Nails? Minimal zero damage. Some dryness will occur which is why it is best to hydrate with cuticle oil. Everyone’s Nails are different and some may not have best of results as others.

Do I need a fill? No. With Shellac the product is fully removed and done completely over again each time.

How do I keep my Shellac at its best? If you see any prodcut lifting do not pick at it, this will tend to lift off the entire prodcut off the nail. Do not file at the edges this will also tend to life product off the entire nail.
Also it is very importatnt to use cutile oil daily. CND recommends their cuticle oil called “Solar Oil” which is a blend of 4 lightweight oils that can easily penetrate through Shellac and to the nail bed for optimal hydration.

Pinterest is like Twitter and Flickr all in one. Pinterest is full of beautiful pictures and images from all over the pnterest that people have “liked” for inspiration, curiosity, and just fun.

How to get started on Pinterest.com

• 1. sign up for a FREE account {HERE}
• 2. Find your friends via Facebook, Twitter, email etc.. (I was surprised by how many of MY Facebook & Twitter friends had this)
• 3. Create a “board” or two or three. Boards are basically a “theme” to organize your pictures that you liked (Some of my boards are Holidays,Tasteful Treats,Crafty,Beauty,…)
• 4. Explore! When you see an image that you like, you have the option to “like” which will then post to your Facebook page as a like. OR you can “Repin” which you then can choose which board to pin it to and then pins to your Pinterest account.
• 5. With your pins you can also at mention Twitter friends (using the @ before their name) and your can also use the # symbol too.
• 6. If you want to know more about the image you see, just click it and it will take to the person who uploaded it or the website it came from. This is great if you see a recipe you like and want the full how to.

Check out Pinterst.com and have some fun! I can waste a few hours just exploring the thousands of uploaded images. It’s a great way to also find other people who like and repin that same things you do! I have found a ton of great bloggers who are crafy, cute, and creative.

First Stop… Saint Cupcake Galore on 12th & Morrison http://saintcupcake.com/
This all cupcake bakery shop sells a various selection of delectable treats with cupcakes as their STAR!
I tried pumpkin spice, toasted coconut cream, and red velvet.
Ashley tried local peach w/ brown sugar cookie crumble, big top dot, and a bonbonbunbuns.
We washed it down with chilled chocolate milk and a hot latte to compliment our Palette.
Check out Saint Cupcake Galore on Twitter they tweet their theme for the day which decided sprinkle and frosting color combos. The day we visited the theme was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with purple,green,and orange colors. So pretty with a whismal humor.

Next stop was Kell’s Irish Pub on 2nd in Downtown PDX http://www.kellsirish.com/
This pub is known for their pub food and Irish beer sections. A unique thing about Kells is their magnetic ceiling. Visitors take cash, wrap it in a coin, and toss it up to the ceiling where is sticks and never returns. All money thrown up to the ceiling is donated to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Its a fun tradition they have been doing for years. Kells was offering a $3 Happy Hour on pub food so we snacked on a few greasy bites and sipped some brew while we sat outside on a sunny afternoon people watching.

And our main stop was Beauty Bar on 1st and Ash http://thebeautybar.com/portland/
$10 Happy Hour special Martini & Manicure! They ahve other locations in other cities including Chicago, Las Vegas, SF, and NY!
Inside the Beauty Bar is vintage inspired with old hair dryers and retro decor. The atmosphere was cute and girly which fills up at night with the opposite sex like any other bar open till early morning.
For the manicure the manicurist had many polishes to choose from including CHANEL Nail Polish which retail for $25. This was my chance to feel a glimpse of high end glam I opted for the RED.

This place is a Portland icon also seen on No Reservations w/Anthony B and MAN vs. Food
Its like any other bakery shop selling donuts but with a little more spunk.
Open 24 hrs you can usually find a line going around the block waiting for these tasty bites.
Some of their popular dounuts are: maple with real bacon,
And of course what started it all was the “Voodoo” donut. An donut shaped in the shape of a body filled with red (blood) jam and stabbed in the heart with a pretzel.
I had the precious little VoodDoo and Ashley had the Neapolitan.

Look.. their brick outside was glitter painted!
