Ice Candles craftsLooking for last minute gifts on a low budget? Try making Ice Candles! These are super cool candles that combine ice and hot wax to create a texture and look of lace.

Supplies:

Ice Candles crafts Scissors
Ice Candles crafts Cylindrical cardboard container (salt or oatmeal)
Ice Candles crafts Paper towel
Ice Candles crafts Cooking oil
Ice Candles crafts Knife
Ice Candles crafts White tapered candle
Ice Candles crafts Large tin can
Ice Candles crafts 1 pound of paraffin wax
Ice Candles crafts Large saucepan
Ice Candles crafts Wooden skewer
Ice Candles crafts Crayon pieces (Color and/or fragrance as desired)
Ice Candles crafts Large spoon
Ice Candles crafts Crushed ice
Bowl

Directions:

1. Prepare a mold by cutting off the top of the cardboard container. Make sure it is clean and intact.
2. Use a paper towel to coat the inside with cooking oil
3. With a knife, trim the bottom from the taper so the taper is the same height as the mold.
4. Melt Wax to ~200 degrees. Fill the tin can with the wax
5. Use a wooden skewer to stir the melting wax. Mix in crayon pieces to get your desired candle color and fragrance.
6. Pour 1/2 inch of wax into the prepared mold and immediately stick the taper into the center, wick end up. Hold the taper in place for a minute or two while the wax sets
7. Spoon 2 inches of crushed ice around the taper, then cover the ice almost completely with melted wax. Add more ice, then more wax, alternating until the mold is filled
8. Set the mold in a bowl for about an hour (it will leak water), letting the wax harden completely.
9. When cooled, pour out any excess water. Then peel off the cardboard to reveal your candle!

Homemade Peppermint Scrub Soap

Peppermint Scrub Soap

Homemade Peppermint Scrub Soap crafts

Supplies:

-soap mold
-glycerin soap (shea butter version)
-crushed apricot seed (can substitute with sea salt)
-peppermint essential oil
-coloring tints

Directions:

1. Melt 4 squares of glycerin soap in a microwave safe glass measuring cup for 45 seconds.
2. For a WHITE base soap: Add 3 drops of peppermint oil, apricot seed scrub

For a swirl/marble effect:
RED: one drop of red + oil & scrub into white base
GREEN: one drop yellow and one drop blue + oil & scrub into white base

3. Pour soap into molds
4. Carefully swirl soap around in the mold to get a marbled/swirly colored effect
5. Let cools according to glycerin directions.
6. When set, place each bar into a small cellophane bag and tie up for gifts or party favors!

Peppermint Bark recipes

Martha Stewart Peppermint Bark

Ingredients:

*Makes 2 1/4 pounds or one 11-by-17-inch sheet

  • -2 pounds white chocolate, chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
  • -12 large candy canes
  • -1/2 teaspoon peppermint oil

Directions:

  1. 1. Line an 11-by-17-inch baking sheet with parchment, and set aside.
  2. 2. In the top of a double boiler, melt white chocolate, stirring constantly.
  3. 3. With a chef’s knife or meat tenderizer, cut or pound candy canes into 1/4-inch pieces.
  4. 4. Stir pieces of candy canes and peppermint oil into the melted chocolate. Remove from heat, and pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet; spread evenly. Chill until firm, 25 to 30 minutes.
  5. 5. Break into pieces, and serve. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
