• 24 small (2×2 inch) pine cones
• 2 ounces or ¼ cup of Frankencense powder
• 4 ounces or ½ cup of Myrrh powder
• 1 ¼ cups of gold glitter
• White craft glue
• Cellophane bags
• A shallow container such as a shoe box

1. Rinse the pine cones in water and place on a cookie sheet. Place the cones in a 300 degree oven for one hour to speed up the drying. Then place them aside on some newspaper to finish drying.

2. Blend the frankincense, myrrh and glitter together in shoe box. Dab some glue on the tips of the pine cones petals and on the bottom of the cone. Roll the pine cones in the blended mixture and set aside to dry.

3. After drying you can place the pine cones in open glass containers or package in the cellophane bags to give as gifts. The scent of the cones is powerfully release when they are burned. Toss a few of the cones into your fireplace when lit for a pleasant smell. If you decide not to burn them, you can still enjoy the aromatic scent just being in the same room.

4. You can also make scented pinecones by using fragrance oils. Take the same steps to wash and dry the pine cones.

5. Place water and several drops of fragrance oil in a spray bottle and spray the cones. Seal the pine cones in a bag and let the sit for about a week. Some great fragrance oils to use are apple, cinnamon, orange, peppermint, nutmeg and pine.

1. Have a plan– Do a fridge cleaning on Friday before to make room for all the Thanksgiving supplies and to leave plenty of room for leftovers. 2. Let the kids help– Kids will be so excited to help, let them open packages of butter or set the table. If they are old enough let then mix up a batch of cookies. My job when I was little was to make sure everyone had their drinks, that is a big job for a little one. If you want them to stay busy give them an assigned “special” job which will make them feel like they are really contributing.

3. Make it a potluck– It’s not too late to contact guests and plan for each person to bring a dish! With everyone’s own unique dish and flavor it will be a Thanksgiving to remember!

4. Ask the Pros– Check in with the Foodnetwork.com for tons of signature dishes and tricks from all the Food Network top chef star contributors like Bobby Flay, Emril Legasse, or Paula Deen.

5. Know your turkey– At Foodnetwork.com there is a Turkey Buying Guide to help sort through all the turkey terms like self-basting, free-range, natural, kosher or organic.

6. It’s okay to cheat– If you’re pressed for time check out the produce section at your local store for pre-cut fresh veggies to help with soups, sides and salads. Pre packaged pies and desserts are a huge time saver and really taste well worth it.

7. Let somebody else cook– Your favorite restaurant or grocery store will undoubtedly be offering prepared turkeys and some full coarse meals to take home for a crowd.

8. Skip the bird–Vegetarians already know about savory substitutes made of Tofu known as Tofurkey, the soy-based version of a holiday bird.

9. Road trip to savings– Bundle your trips. Make it a day of running errands to limit traffic on the road and make things a little easier because you are making one day of running around not 5 more honey do trips back to the store.

10. Know where to call for help– So many sources listed below who want to help if you have trouble with your holiday meal.

EXTRA-CRISPY APPLE CRISP
Hands-on time: 35 minutes
Time to table: 90 minutes
Serves 8 (easy to halve)

Ingredients Needed:

* APPLES Juice of two lemons
* 1/4 cup brown sugar
* 2 teaspoons cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon nutmeg
* 6 large apples (see TIPS), peeled, quartered, ‘thirded’ and ‘thirded’ again

* TOPPING 1/2 cup flour
* 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs (the secret ingredient!)
* 1/2 cup oatmeal (old-fashioned or quick, not instant)
* 1/2 cup walnuts (see TIPS)
* 1/2 cup brown sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon table salt
* 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cold or at room temperature

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 375F.
2. APPLES In a large bowl, stir together all the ingredients except apples. Drop in the apple pieces as they’re prepped, stirring often so that each piece is lightly covered.
3. TOPPING In a separate bowl, stir together all the ingredients except the butter. With your hands, work in the butter until small, even clumps begin to form.
4. ASSEMBLE Lightly butter a shallow baking dish such as a quiche pan or pie pan. Transfer apples into the dish, then top evenly with the topping. (If making ahead of time, stop here and let rest for 3 – 4 hours.)
5. BAKE Bake for 50 – 60 minutes, covering with foil or a baking sheet for the last 15 minutes if the topping starts to get a little dark. Let cool a bit.
6. SERVE Serve warm, plain or dolloped with whipped cream. Just whip a cup of heavy cream with a tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and a 1/2 teaspoon of black walnut extract or vanilla.

Well when I look around online more and see beautiful things come out of that thing that they can sewing machine, I really want to try to teach myself and make something! Like this craft below… which takes old fabric scraps and reshapes them into leaves for a tree of a pillow! My living room has a rustic fall theme all year round so this would look beautiful against my natural colors.

Supplies Needed:
1. Scraps, enough for the tree trunk and the leaves. Cutting your scraps into rectangles will make it easier to adhere them to the appliqué material.

2. Appliqué material: I use Heat’ n Bond. You’ll need about 1/2 yard or more depending on how many leaves you want to make.

3. Material for the pillow front, cut to 17″ x 17″ square. I used lightweight canvas and prefer home weight material, but you could use anything.

4. Material for the back. Cut 1 rectangle 17″x 14″ and cut 1 rectangle 17″x 10″.

Supplies Needed:

• Yellow and green construction paper
• Printable corn template found {HERE}
• Scissors
• Tacky Glue
• Red, orange, yellow, and white buttons in various sizes

Directions:

1. Print our corn template and cut the pieces out. Trace the corn piece onto yellow construction paper, and the husk piece onto green construction paper. Cut both pieces out.
2. Glue the corn piece onto the husk piece.
3. Spread and even layer of white glue onto the corn piece.
4. Place the buttons onto the glue.

I have school today during the day, our instructors or letting us dress up on the salon floor so I bet the clients will get a kick outta that. Being a cosmetologist in training it is going to be SUPER FUN to get wild and do my hair and makeup. Tonight I am dressing up as a Bumble Bee and Jeff is dressing up as a NASCAR driver with a cool old 80’s jumpsuit coat we found at an exchange store! We will have pictures up maybe by Monday from our fun night on the town hopping a few bars, parties, and costume contests.
