The dishwasher is a kitchen’s greatest convenience for cleaning and sterilizing dirty dishes and utensils. Think outside the box and when you have something around the house you really want to get clean that the clothes washer just doesn’t do the job, try popping it in a dishwash cycle. A dishwasher’s water temperature reaches 155° F to kill bacteria, so crank the water to hot (many dishwashers have a “sterilization mode” or cycle, which is necessary to ensure the water is heated high enough to kill bacteria). Placing items in the dishwasher which you wouldn’t normally find there will free up your time while cleaning items more effectively than by hand.

Keep in mind you want to run your dishes and household items in separate loads, food can get stuck in material and possibly stain.

Which items are safe to wash in the dishwasher you may ask? Check out the list below…

Kid’s Toys, Barbies, Action figures

Hairbrushes, barrettes, scrunchies, and hair-ties

Garden tools

Sports guards

Baby bottle brushes

Furniture cushions

Scrub brushes

Vegetable brushes

Baseball hats

Toothbrushes

Pet Toys

Fake flowers

Kitchen sponges

Make-Up brushes

Shoes

Plastic broom heads and dustpans

Cages of fans

Tooth brush holders

Refrigerator shelving

Soap dishes

Pen holders

Cup holder inserts from your car

Light fixture covers

Trash can lids

Potatoes (make sure to leave out the soap!)

Do you have any additional items you have cleaned in the dishwasher or have heard is an “ok” to pop in the dishwasher? LET US KNOW by COMMENTING BELOW!

With the holidays now said and done its time to get rid of the festive decor and the main attraction…the tree. This generation it is a good idea to find an eco-friendly way to recycle the tree by composing it in either the weekly yard debris container or drop off at your local boy scouts troop of Church.
But if you are like me, I kind of like busy green decor lighting up the living room and somehow have become attached to the forestry object being a part of our living room this past month. The lights glisten so nicely at night and it became a habit to turn it on when I came home from work. Now that Christmas is over and technically a tree has no need to be on or around, I dont want to take down or send it off to be chopped up. At least not yet.

Well a friend of mine Robin turned her Post Christmas tree into a Valentine tree! Some may say its to early to hop on to the next holiday (Valentine’s Day) but instead of the extra work of hauling the greenery out of the living room, keep it around for another month or so and turn it into a “V-Day” lovers tree!

Here is a picture of Robin’s tree below along with a few other Valentine trees I found around online!

Today at the school I work at we celebrated the 100th day of school! This is a celebration that “honors” the 100th day of school! I have heard of different schools celebrating their 100th day uniquely in their own way and making it a learning day for kiddos to count and learn how to count in groups! Our school had kids bring in 100 pieces of an edible snack that was to be counted and added into a mix with the other 100 somethings from the other students. This was a great activity and a great way to get the kids counting!

Last week the Kindergarten class took home one large sheet of card stock paper and were assigned to paste/showcase 100 “things”. It was really cute to see what the kids came up with, some glued on cheerios, paper clips, foam shapes, raisins, and other random household items laying around.

Below is a FREE printable from K2 Printables that you can use in your class or home to count with your kids “100 things”.

K2 Printables

50 Ideas to Celebrate the 100th day of School

From: Teacher’s First

1. Jump rope 100 times.

2. Build the tallest house of cards you can using 100 cards.

3. Flip a coin 100 times. Make a graph showing the number of heads and tails.

4. Roll a pair of dice 100 times. Create a chart showing how many times each number came up. Make a graph based on the chart.

5. Find someone who is at least 100 years old. Ask them what life was like when they were your age.

6. Find out which weighs more – 100 nickels or 100 quarters

7. Have everyone in your class try to throw a tennis ball 100 yards. Measure each throw. Calculate the average throw.

8. Count by 100s to 10,000

9. Recite multiplication facts up to 100 (10 x 10) with your eyes closed!

10. Guess how much 100 jelly beans weigh. Then weigh them and give a prize to the closest guess. Don’t eat the jellybeans!

11. Separate 100 jellybeans by color. What percentage of the total is the most common color? What percentage of the total is the least common color? Don’t eat the jellybeans!

12. Without using a calculator, figure out how many jellybeans each student would get if you divided 100 jellybeans equally among all the students. Don’t eat the jellybeans.

13. Blindfold a student and have him/her pass out the proper number of jellybeans. What is the probability that the first jellybean handed out will be the most common color? (Think about this one!) EAT THE JELLYBEANS!!

25. Have everyone in the class close their eyes. Start a stopwatch and ask students to say “now” when they think 100 seconds has passed. Prizes to the winner!!

26. See if you can hold your breath for 100 seconds!
