Sundays are Jeff and I’s one day off out of the week together so he suggested we get out and do something fun together since the weather has be gorgeous.

Today we went to the Portland Polish festival in North Portland organized by the Polish Association and St. Stanislaus Parish. This was our fist time going to the festival and suprisingly it was really busy, Portlanders everywhere came out to celebrate and enjoy good food and beer. We have never really eaten Polish food before so it was interesting to look, taste and try.
We eat a few authentic foods such as:

Pierogi

Potato Pancakes

Polish Sausage

Visit the Portland Polish Festival website {HERE} for more info

The festival is now over, it was only for two days but this is an annual thing so remember this for next year! My favorite festival is next weekend which is the GREEK FESTIVAL! I will have a post up here in a day or two with more info about that one.

Enjoy our pictures below!

Now that I am in Cosmetology school it is a BIG thing to dress up for Halloween with full blown hair and make up to match! I am so excited to show off my creative side and have some fun dressing up for the clients too because Halloween falls on a Saturday so we will all be on the floor in the salon.

I have been pondering of what I should be that would fun and UNIQUE since that’s what I love to do…and I have decided I am going to be a BUMBLE BEE! Not quite the cutesy bumble bee, but the QUEEN BEE! In between cute, sexy, and cheesy. I have searching around online a bit looking at my options and ideas and what I can put together, I have seen a lot of full piece dress ddult bumble bee costumes but those are wayyy to sexy and appropriate to wear to school or anywhere for that matter and I want to choose something that is fun and upbeat like my personality.

So far I know I do want to wear a black TUTU. Not sure yet if I want to buy the tool myself at the fabric store and put that together to make a TUTU or if I want to buy one.
I saw one costume at CoolestHomemadeCostumes.com which was made 100% from things at home and limitly bought. The bumble bee costume was made by creating their own tutu and by using a black tshirt top that was taped with yellow duct tape. That sounds fairly easy and cheap since I do have a lot of black clothes and all I would need was a TUTU and yellow duct tape.

Let me know what your ideas are!! Have you put any thought to what you will be this year? COMMENT BELOW and SHARE!

Below are some pictures of cute Bumble Bee costumes that I do like and want to take for inspiration.

Every girl has got to have a good pair of earrings. They add a splash of color and spunk to any outfit! At school we can only wear black and white attire, so I love to wear colored and decorative earrings to personalize myself a little to show off my outgoing personality.

A little bit of an issue I was having with my earrings was storing my big danglely pieces, they dont fit nice and neat in a jelwerly box or other containters and I never what which ones I have when I do want to wear them. So I came up with a solution… I love to showcase and hook my earrings on a strip of ribbon that dangle neatly and are quite pretty on my bulletin board.

Today is officially the fist day of FALL! Yay my favorite season and upcoming favorite holiday…HALLOWEEN! I have a ton of Halloween crafts that I posted here on TwoHeartsTogether last year, they are still great fun and kid friendly so check them out in our left sidebar in the categories section named “Halloween” or {CLICK HERE}

I just came across this simple and elegant project at Poopscape Project. It takes something as simple as a rock found in your backyard and adding gold leaf to make designs and make something rustic that can be brought in the home.

Below are the supplies needed, but for the full project instructions {CLICK HERE}

Supplies Needed:

a selection of river rocks (should be smooth), thoroughly washed and dried

gold leaf

Graphix double tack mounting film

a small brush

small sharp scissors (for making those dainty cuts) or an x-acto knife

I may be crafty, but I cannot/do not know how to sew or knit. I have always wanted to and have attempted with no success. Well this gives me hope because Katrina over at RootsAndWingsCo didn’t know how to knit either and so she started knitting by making a cover for her Swiffer Sweeper Mop! I have hardwood floors and they are such a pain to keep up on, the Swiffer works pretty well on catching all those dust bunnies and fallen hair (ooops that me!) but the only annoying thing is those cover replacements are SO EXPENSIVE!

The knitted Swiffer cover is made of yarn and is copied from a template that was bought at Michael’s! Next time I stop in I’m going on the search for one because if she can do eh, maybe I can too.

But the BEST part of these Swiffer covers, they are WASHABLE and REUSABLE so no more giving in to the manufacture expensive replacement pads, just whip up a few of these babies and you’re a cleaning woman gone mad. Well not really mad but you know what I mean.

The template is:

Sugar’ n Cream Knit Duster

(click the above link to see the product on Michel’s website)

found at Michel’s Craft Store

The creativity of the pink doughnut above makes me think of the popular funky doughnut shop here in Portland called Voodoo Doughnut. If you live in Portland YOU KNOW what I”m talking about, Voodoo Doughnut is a super unique hole in the wall doughnut shop that is open 24 hours in the heart of downtown Portland. They sell specialty gag/joke doughnuts with funny innuendos.

For example some doughnuts sold and concocted at VooDoo:

Their most popular doughnut the “Voodoo Doll Doughnut”: This doughnut is shaped like a doll, then “stabbed” with a mini pretzel in the heart with an inner blood red filling.

Another funny treat the “Dirty Snowball” a chocolate doughnut covered with pink marshmallow glaze, rolled in coconut and topped with a dollop of surprise filling.

Their most naughty and extreme doughnut the “Cock-n-Balls” shaped like the title describes with a triple vanilla cream filling.

Voodoo sells more unique and charaecther filled doughnuts at their two Portland 24 hours locations. They are a cash only establishment so I recommend that you bring at least $5 with you when you go so you can get a few there are TOO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM to just pick one.

Below are some doughnuts served at Voodoo…

This project is next on my project “to do” list along with many other things but totally cant wait to play around with this one. All is needed paper wrapped wire, fabric scraps, glue and some CREATIVITY. I personally dont really have any fabric scraps, but I think Fabric Depot is having an end of the summer sale so I should go on over and pick up some funky finds!
This would be cool to theme color coordinate with special holidays like Halloween or Christmas and spelling out words perhaps, like “BOO” or “HOHOHO”. Rockin’ tutorial from Cut out and Keep home of the step-by-step craft tutorials.

Supplies:

paper wrapped wire

fabric scraps, cut into strips at least 1″ wide. Length doesn’t matter much.

glue gun

buttons, bits, beads and baubles

other fun things, like birds (mine were at the Dollar Store–score)

cord for hanging

Directions:

1. Unwrap a length of wire and start bending it into desired initial. Lower case is always easier. Some initials might require you to cut the wire and use multiple pieces. Not too hard. When you’ve achieved your desired shape, make sure to double back the pokey ends so no one ends up stuck. That’s not quality time when someone is bleeding.
2. This part is fun and easy. Taking your strips of fabric, glue down one end and simply wrap it around the wire. You can finish it off by gluing the end down or tying it to the next strip, which looks pretty cute, too. Continue all around until all the wire is covered. You might need to tighten up parts or add bit more glue in spots. It’s all good..
3.Decide where you want your other fun tid-bits to go. Sew on buttons or beads, glue on flowers and birds. It’s still pretty flexible, even wrapped in fabric, so you can make adjustments to the shape as needed.
4. That’s it. I know. Who needs a tutorial for THAT? Well, I’m feeling pretty lazy this Friday. You can modify the shape–I made an egg for Easter, heart for Valentine’s etc. This would also make a great project for a girl’s birthday party. Little girls gathered around, giddily crafting…pure heaven.

Here is a cool unique way to showcase COLORS in the form of a color wheel from Green Art Box! Kids can easily help make this vibrant wheel by punching multiple SHADES of a color (acknowledging there are multiple shares of the same color) then gluing them on a sheet of poster board to display at home or in the classroom.
The project calls for liquid glue or glue sticks, but I think Spray Adhesive would be much easier to glue the dot especially in high quantity like this project.

SUPPLY LIST:

- scrap paper in various colors (magazines, wrapping paper, junk mail, empty packaging, coupons, etc)
- stiff cardboard, cardstock, or poster board
- hole punch
- ruler
- glue or sparay adhesive
- black pen/pencil

DIRECTIONS:
1) Use a large plastic lid to trace a large circle (using black pen) on your piece of card-stock.

2) Use a ruler and black pen to divide your circle into 6 uniform pie pieces (as shown in attached color wheel).

3) Label each section by color (this will get covered up by paper, just use as a guide). Set drawn out wheel aside.

4) Search through scrap papers (magazines, wrapping paper, junk mail, empty packaging, coupons, etc) to find samplings of the 6 colors on wheel (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). NOTE: you want many different shades of each color… the blue in blueberries is not the same as blue sky.

5) As you find samples of each color, hole punch out the swatches and glue onto the appropriate section on color wheel. Continue to “file” each color sample into the appropriate section on wheel until each color section is completely filled by dots.

6) When dry, label each color section around outer edge as “Reds” or “Blues” … this shows that there are many variances within each color.
